AN IMPORTANT NOTE ABOUT THESE RULES:
These rules are meant to act as a set of guidelines for developing safety and performance rules for individual tracks and groups. The GRASSPASS National Championship will require competitors to conform to a set of rules similar to these rules. It is the responsibility of each track owner/organizer to implement competition rules as they see fit.


READ OUR TERMS OF USE

  1. Safety
    1. Driver Safety Equipment
      1. Helmets
        1. Closed face helmets with eye shields must be worn at all times.
        2. Helmets MUST be buckled at all times.
        3. Long Hair must be tucked in at all times
      2. Clothing
        1. Shirts are required at all times
      3. Footwear
        1. Closed toe shoes must be worn at all times
    2. Kart Safety Equipment
      1. Suspension
        1. All suspension mounting points must be safe and rigidly mounted.
        2. No moving suspension is allowed at any time
      2. Bumpers
        1. Front
          1. FULL WIDTH Front bumpers are required at all times. The bumper must extend outward to the outside edge of the front tires.
          2. Front bumpers may not drag on the track or hang dangerously.
          3. Front Bumpers must not have sharp edges or edges that would get caught in competitors karts.
          4. CIK style plastic or fiberglass front bumpers are suggested and must be mounted in such a way as to prevent tire to tire contact.
        2. Rear
          1. Rear bumpers are required at all times.
          2. Rear bumpers may not drag on the track or hang dangerously.
          3. Rear Bumpers must not have sharp edges or edges that would get caught in competitors karts.
          4. Rear bumpers MUST extend to at least to the center line of each rear tire.
      3. Nerf-Bars
        1. Nerf bars are required on both sides of the kart at all times.
        2. Nerf bars may not drag on the ground at any time.
        3. Nerf bars must be secured to the kart in a safe manner.
        4. Nerf bars must not have any sharp or dangerous edges.
        5. The trailing edge of both nerf bars or side pods MUST be outboard of the outside edge of the rear tires on both sides of the kart.
      4. Ballast
        1. Ballast may be placed anywhere on a kart providing it is secured in a safe manner.
        2. Ballast must be mechanically secured to the kart, i.e. nuts and bolts.
        3. Ballast may be in an unbreakable container provided that container is secured to the kart in a mechanical manner.
        4. Loose or dangerous ballast WILL result in a Black Flag.
      5. Seats
        1. Seats must be mounted to the kart in a safe manner.
        2. Seats may not have sharp or exposed edges.
      6. Brakes
        1. BRAKES MUST BE FULLY FUNCTIONAL AT ALL TIMES
          1. Karts may not be on the track at ANY time without brakes.
        2. A single rear disk is the only brake allowed on a kart, no front brakes are allowed.
      7. Chain & Clutch
        1. Belt, Chain and clutch guards are required on all karts at all times.
        2. Belt, Chain and clutch guards must be safe and effective.
        3. Full length chain guards are recommended.
      8. Engines
        1. Engines must be safely mounted at all times.
        2. All karts must be equipped with a stock, unmodified Honda 6.5 HP muffler.
        3. The ONLY modification allowed to the stock 6.5hp muffler is the removal of the spark arresting screen.
      9. Fuel
        1. No fuels containing lead or other exotic compounds may be used.
      10. Tires
        1. Tires must be untreaded slicks.
        2. No grooves may be stock or added to tires.
        3. No traction devices such as studs or screws may be used.
        4. Tire softening compounds are prohibited.
        5. Tire size is open.
        6. Tires must be pneumatic, no solid tires.
    3. On-Track Safety
      1. Spirit of the rules
        1. All driving, be it in practice, qualifying or racing must be performed in a SAFE manner. Any driver observed to be driving in an unsafe manner WILL be stopped and reprimanded or penalized as determined by the race director or track owner.
      2. Passing
        1. At all times, it is the responsibility of the OVERTAKING driver to make a clean, safe and contact free pass.
        2. It is the responsibility of the driver being OVERTAKEN to drive a safe and consistent line on the track.
        3. Blocking, swerving or other unsportsman like or dangerous driving will result in the loss of driving privileges.
  2. GrassPass National Honda Class Rules
      1. Series Description
        1. The GrassPass rules will be in effect for any GrassPass sanctioned events.
    1. Kart Preparation
      1. Numbers
        1. Numbers must be displayed clearly on the front and both sides of the kart at all times.
        2. Numbers must be clear and legible.
        3. Numbers must be no less than 5" in height and must contrast with the background they are applied to.
        4. It is in the interest of the competitors to have clear and readable numbers to avoid timing and scoring errors.
      2. Transponder (if available)
      3. Transponders must be purchased or rented from the organizer in order to compete. It is your responsibility to properly mount your transponder. All transponders must be returned to the organizer at the end of each event unless other charging arrangements are made.

      4. Kart condition
        1. All karts must meet the minimum safety requirements as laid out in the safety rules.
      5. Tires
        1. Tires must meet the requirements as laid out in the safety rules.
      6. Engines
        1. Honda 6.5HP engines are required (model GX200.)
        2. Honda 6.5HP engines with internal 2:1 gear reduction are permitted
        3. Internal workings of the Honda gear reduction may not be modified.

        4. NO MODIFICATIONS MAY BE MADE TO ANY HONDA ENGINE OTHER THAN THOSE LISTED BELOW.
          1. OEM Governors may be overridden in any manner, providing there in no likelihood of a stuck throttle.
          2. Air filter element may be replaced by non-OEM filter but must remain the same dimensions and in the same location as the OEM filter. Plastic covers may not be removed.
          3. Low Oil kill switch may be disconnected.
          4. 2 Throttle return springs MUST be ADDED.
          5. Engine shutoff switch may be relocated.
            1. If relocated, the shutoff switch must be placed in an accessible location for driver and workers.
          6. Spark plugs may be of a non-OEM brand.
          7. Exhaust spark arrestor screen may be removed.
          8. ALL OTHER MODIFICATIONS ARE EXPRESSLY FORBIDDEN WITHOUTH THE CONSENT OF THE ORGANIZERS.
        5. Parts may be replaced on a Honda engine as long as those parts being installed are manufactured by Honda for use on the 6.5HP engine and are UNMODIFIED.
      7. Clutch and Gearing
        1. Gear ratio is open.
          1. No variable ratio belt drives or transmissions
        2. Chain, sprockets and chain guards are open provided they meet the safety requirements laid out in the safety section.
        3. Belt drive is permitted provided it is a cog type and must be a constant ratio.
        4. The clutch is open.
          1. Fun kart clutches are recommended.
          2. Axle clutches are prohibited
          3. Wet clutches are prohibited (excluding Honda gear reduction)
          4. Multiple disk clutches are prohibited (excluding Honda gear reduction)
          5. Driver must be protected from all spinning parts by a sturdy guard.
      8. Fuel, Oil and Lubricants
        1. Karts may not leak any fluids onto the track or in the pits.
        2. Fuel is restricted to 87-94 octane unleaded fuel.
          1. No additives or other types of fuel may be mixed with the fuel.
    2. Race Procedure
      1. Qualifying
        1. When qualifying is used before a race, the rules will be spelled out in the Supplemental Regulations
      2. The Grid
        1. All competitor’s karts must be on the grid 5 minutes before the official starting time of the race.
        2. Karts that are not on the grid at the 5 minute to go point will start from the back of the pack.
      3. Starting
        1. Unless otherwise stated in the supplemental regulations, all starts will be Rolling Starts
      4. Racing
        1. Race lengths will be determined by the organizers. The actual number of laps will vary from track to track.
        2. Racing will remain safe and in accordance with all rules governing on track behavior and procedure.
      5. Pit Stops
        1. Pit stops shall be performed in a safe and under control manner.
        2. When entering and exiting the pit lane, extreme caution will be used and speed will be kept to that of a person walking briskly or below.
        3. Speeding and unsafe pit procedure may result in a black flag or other penalty.
        4. Refueling mid-race is prohibited unless otherwise stated.
        5. Karts returning to the track from the pit lane shall blend into traffic safely
      6. The Flags
        1. All competitors are asked to learn and obey the flags during ALL on track sessions. The flags are for safety and will only be used when they are needed.
          1. Yellow Fag
            1. CAUTION, SLOW DOWN!! The yellow flag is shown to alert drivers of a track blockage or unsafe situation. THERE IS NO PASSING IN THE AREA LEADING UP OR AT A YELLOW FLAG.
            2. IGNORING A YELLOW FLAG WILL MOST LIKELY RESULT IN A BLACK FLAG!!!
          2. Yellow Flag at all stations
            1. If a yellow flag is displayed at all flagging stations, a full course caution will be in effect and cars will slow to follow the car in front of them. NO PASSING in allowed under a full course Caution.
            2. Karts may enter the Pit Lane during a full course caution.
          3. Black Flag
            1. STOP, The black flag is used to end a session early, or to signal to a single driver that he/she must report to the pits. A black flag will be used at the discresion of the race director.
            2. IGNORING A BLACK FLAG WILL RESULT IN THE DRIVER BEING EJECTED FROM THE RACETRACK AND ASKED NOT TO RETURN.
          4. Green Flag
            1. GO, Begin racing (safely). The green will be shown at the beginning of a race and to begin racing after a caution period.
      7. Race Stoppage
        1. If the race needs to be stopped for any reason, competitors will be restarted in the running order of the last completed lap.
        2. The Race Director has the option to stop a race at any time they see fit for the sake of safety or fair competition.
    3. Timing & Scoring
      1. Point keeping
        1. The Organizers will maintain and publish the season point totals for each team.
    4. Post-Race Inspection
      1. Purpose
        1. Post race inspection is to maintain the safety and integrity of kart racing and is at the discretion of the organizer
      2. Procedure
        1. All competitors are asked to cooperate and comply with all requests made of them during the post race inspection period.
        2. Inspection will immediately follow selected event. Competitors are expressly forbidden from modifying, altering, to add to or remove anything from their karts between the end of the race and the post race inspection.
      3. Kart Safety Inspection
        1. The condition of all required safety equipment will be checked to be in compliance with the Safety rules.
        2. The brakes of each kart shall be tested after each race.
          1. A kart will be determined to have brakes if and only if it is able to stop the rear axle from turning with a passenger in the seat while being pushed on the track surface by another kart.
          2. The race director will have the final say in all brake related rule infractions.
      4. Infractions
        1. The Race Director will have final say in all penalties resulting from post race technical inspection.
        2. The Organizers give express permission to the Race Director to exclude a competitor from the official results for a post race inspection violation.
  3. Spirit of Competition
    1. Rules Enforcement
      1. The rules are meant to protect the competitors as well as the promoters and the hosts.
      2. There will be absolutely no leniency shown to those who disregard these rules and act in an unsafe, unhealthy or inconsiderate way.
    2. Rule Changes
      1. All rules may be appealed and all competitors have the opportunity to request a review or clarification to any rule.
      2. If a competitor has a question about the legality of a part, modification, procedure or action, the Organizers will respond to that question in a timely manner and notify all competitors in the supplemental regulations of the next event.
